FUNERALS

Funerals are reverent occasions. At Moss Vale Uniting Church, a funeral service is a service of worship conforming to the worship book Uniting in Worship 2 of the Uniting Church of Australia.

Since the church offers a ministry of love and hope to those who are dying and those who grieve at the death of family and friends it is important to have family members and other designees contact the minister or the church office whenever death is imminent.

One of the benefits of having a church home is the support and help that the church community can provide for the dying and the bereaved.

The family will also want to notify the minister about the death to schedule the funeral service.

If it would be helpful, the minister will gladly be present with the family to offer support as decisions are being made with the funeral director.

The minister will also need to meet with the family shortly after the time of death to discuss arrangements for funeral and internment services.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

The funeral service can be helfd in any one of our three churches: Bundanoon, Moss Vale or Robertson.

It is the policy of the Uniting Church that the minister in placement conducts the service. Other ministers may participate with the approval of the minister.

The Christian church recognizes that in conducting a funeral service, we are celebrating the whole life of a loved-one, and therefore will willingly negotiate appropriate ways of meeting the family's needs within the service, including the participation of secular groups and symbols within the context of the service. Any felt needs should be discussed with the minister when arrangements for the service are being made.

The family is encouraged to prepare for and plan the funeral in an attitude of simplicity. Expensive caskets and extravagent floral displays may overshadow the hope to Christ to which the Funeral Service bears witness.

Catering for a meal or for morning or afternoon tea following the service is available upon request.

The Bundanoon Uniting Church has a Columbarium in its Garden of Memories which is available for the internment of ashes.

Fees for the minister and organist for the Funeral Service are payable through the Funeral Director.

There is no charge for the minister for members of Moss Vale Uniting Church.

If the deceased was not a member of the Moss Vale Uniting Church and the family wishes the minister to preside when the ashes are interned at the Bundanoon Columbarium, there will be $50 fee, payable to the minister at the time of the service.
